Uh oh Silverlight...here comes crappy sites!

Technorati Tags: ,

One of the biggest issues people complain about with Flash sites is the crappy graphics/implementation and stupid ads (even though they don’t blame Photoshop for animated GIFs; lol…had to say it…again). They blame this on Flash, unfortunately.

Well, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. IT ISN’T THE TOOL MAKING THESE CRAPPY SITES AND STUPID ADS…IT’S THE PEOPLE!!!!

Here is my nomination for Silverlight crappy site #1:

http://www.flowers-for-you.com.my/catalog2.aspx

No offense to the creator but a spinning nav with a background video not covering the full height of the window AND a poorly implemented mouse positioning nav? Come on…these things were marked bad 4 or 5 years ago. Also, this was showcased as the first item on Silverlight.net.

What’s the worst part? I’m glad you asked.

“Malaysian Florist ‘Flowers for You’ has combined ASP.NET AJAX and Silverlight to create an attractive e-commerce Web site. The impressive catalog uses video, sound, and animation to showcase its beautiful flower arrangements.”

Attractive? Impressive? Again…I nominate you flowers-for-you.com.my.

Disclaimer:

This post isn’t to compare Flash to Silverlight. I’m merely bringing to light the simple fact that the tool doesn’t make a product/project crappy…the creator does.

Hrm. I believe by your own standards, you should have included a link to a equally crappy Flash site…even though this wasn’t a comparison :)

You know, I did a quick search to try and find one but can’t. That DEFINITELY isn’t because there aren’t any but because people don’t advertise their site as being crappy. If I find one…I definitely will.

Regardless of Flash having them the point stands: crappy Flash sites are not the doing (or undoing) of Flash itself…but the person creating it. Substitute Silverlight with Flash and the point stands again.
