SPAM SPAM SPAM!!!
I’ve been annoyed with spam lately (my blog and other lists) but I noticed my comments have had spam more and more lately, even with Akismet still installed. So, needless to say, I’m not happy about that. Since I just upgraded to MT 4 I figured I’d look at my spam and see how much better MT4 is with spam while also looking for comments that are legit but marked as spam.
Well, I went through about 3 pages (20 spam messages per page) and deleted then noticed the amount of spam MT was holding. 11, 627!!!! That’s ridiculous. Then I noticed some larger spam comment blocks (like huge blocks of text) so I started looking at timestamps.
I was getting spam almost every 2 to 3 minutes for weeks! With 11k in the entire spam block…I can handle 1 to 5 slipping through every now and then. lol. I still want it to be better though (no spam). None of these are hard to recognize as spam. I mean they say the same stuff as the rest of them: something about ringtones, nice guestbook, etc, etc.
So, a ton of comments were caught today but I don’t know if that is MT 4 or not. This simply means it is time to take some metrics. I’ve emptied my spam comments as of right now. I’ll blog again in a couple days and note how many made it through and how many were deleted.

994 spam messages (as of 6:56 today)!! 0 made it through the spam filters.

I’m going to change the blog here soon to a new layout (probably just an MT designed one) so I can take advantage of some of the new features for logging in, etc. I simply don’t have time to code, publish, wait….wait….wait…ok…publish is done, test, fix code, public, wait….wait….wait…ok…publish is done, test, [rinse repeat]. So, look for a new design soon as well as more info on spam catching.
