I'm late(!) but I saw something sweet!

I missed the first part of the keynote. :-( I was up quite early but forced myself back to sleep since I didn’t have to be here until 9:30. I woke up right around 8 and remembered I needed to shave/cut my hair and iron my clothes. Time was short.

I was 30 minutes late and have no idea what I missed but I do know what I saw. :-)

Netflix hired Avenue A | Razorfish to build a new media player. Wait…side bar: Expression Media Encoder just crashed. lol. Nice recovery by the speaker Wayne Smith though. :-D Back to Netflix.

The media player was built with Silverlight and it SWEET. There isn’t anything overly new about it. All of it can be done in Flash/Flex with ease. The thing I like is the fact that it was built with a pre-1.0 version of Silverlight. That is quite nice.

The features were more than just a customized video player. You could integrate with your Netflix account (Add the video to your queue), synchronize your video with someone else so you could watch it together (on different computers that is, which wouldn’t be natively easy in Flash or Flex without using Flash Media Server or similar; not sure how they did it with Silverlight yet though so it may not be native), and chat within the synchronized video playback. That was pretty sweet. It flowed super smooth as well, which is a knock I hear a lot in Silverlight talk(s).

Well, it has begun. I’m going to be in almost all Silverlight/WPF sessions. Look for more as time goes by. bbl.
