Max 2006: Keynote
Can you say “Blue Man Group”? Everyone…at the same time…BLUE MAN GROUP! How sweet is it when BMG opens up the conference keynote? I’ll answer this one. It is SHAAWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! :-) Greg Rewis forewarned me Monday “be sure to be there @ 8:30” and I’m glad we took his advice. Of course, we have to go watch a whole show now. They were on for a good 20 to 30 minutes but it was 100% great!
Kevin Lynch lead the keynote, as usual. He brought on Shantanu Narayen to talk about the marriage between Macromedia and Adobe. He made light of it, which was pretty coo, and spoke briefly about what has happened over the 9 months after the marriage.
Over the next 1.5 to 2 hours we saw Apollo (woooo hoooooooooo; shaaaweeet stuff there…I can’t wait to get my hands on it), Flash 9, Fireworks 9, Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3, Dreamweaver 9, Adobe Digital Editions (new on Labs), Spry, and Soundblast (a new audio application Adobe is working on). Maybe there were a few more in there but I was getting hammered by IM’s so I missed a couple things. lol. (I won’t be on IM tomorrow AM so email me!) :-)
What was the greatest part of the keynote (product specific)? I’d have to say Apollo. I won’t get into specifics until I have more info on Apollo and can answer more questions/concerns about functionality, etc. Trust me though…it is horribly nice. The best thing about Apollo is how the code doesn’t change from Windows to Mac to Linux. :-D GRAVY!
The other lovely part was the integration between Photoshop+Fireworks+Flash+Dreamweaver+Illustrator+FlexBuilder+Apollo and a few of them mixed together. Seriously…they all integrate…well…great. :-) PSD to Flash is now easy as heck. There is an import utility that let’s you select the layers you want, make MovieClips (and name them), and it even maintains the layers blending mode! Dreamweaver has direct integration with Photoshop too. Illustrator output a swf and Flex used it to skin an app that was eventually turned into an Apollo app. They are doing GREAT work on the integration of the products. I’m loving that aspect of the upcoming products.
I have had BAD connectivity all day so I missed blogging a few things. I’ll be back later and hopefully tomorrow while I’m in the sessions to talk more. Tom Jordahl is entertaining and teaching us all about “Flex Data Services”http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/dataservices/ and is doing a great job.
See you later…I need to watch more. :-)
